What is a cocktail glass?

A cocktail glass is a dedicated glass designed to serve and enhance a mixed drink. Unlike all-purpose tumblers, cocktail glasses are shaped around the drinks they serve. The classic v-shaped martini glass keeps stirred cocktails cold and displays the drink, the coupe suits vintage short cocktails, the margarita glass supports salted rims, the highball preserves fizz in long drinks, and the rocks glass is ideal for spirit-forward serves over ice. Each cocktail glass type is designed to improve temperature, aroma and presentation.

What is the difference between a coupe and a martini glass?

A martini glass has a deep, V-shaped bowl designed for stirred or shaken cocktails like martinis and cosmopolitans, keeping the drink chilled and away from the hand. A coupe glass has a shallow, rounded bowl and is traditionally used for drinks like daiquiris, sidecars and champagne cocktails. Coupes are generally more stable and less prone to spilling, making them a popular modern home bar choice.

What glass should I use for a margarita?

The traditional choice is a margarita glass, designed with a wide rim for salt or sugar and a distinctive silhouette that highlights colour and garnish. However, a coupe glass or rocks glass also works well, especially for margaritas served over ice. The best choice depends on whether you prefer a frozen, shaken or on-the-rocks serve.

What is a rocks glass used for?

A rocks glass (also known as an old-fashioned or whisky glass) is a short, heavy tumbler used for spirits served neat or over ice. It’s ideal for drinks like old-fashioneds, negronis, whisky sours and straight whisky or bourbon. Its sturdy base makes it perfect for muddling and stirring directly in the glass.

Are cocktail glasses dishwasher safe?

Most everyday cocktail glasses from brands like Tempa, Alex Liddy, Cellar, Luigi Bormioli and Anchor Hocking are dishwasher safe, but always check care instructions. Premium crystal options from Riedel, Nachtmann, Spiegelau and Waterford are usually hand-wash recommended to preserve clarity, thin rims and delicate stems.

What size is a cocktail glass?

Cocktail glass sizes vary by style. Martini glasses typically hold 150–250ml, coupes 150–220ml, margarita glasses 250–350ml, highball glasses 300–450ml, and rocks glasses 240–350ml. House offers a wide range of capacities to suit every cocktail style, from short classics to long mixed drinks.
